27 Sep 2004Back up to speed
So
- we went to St Ives for a much-needed week's holiday, which excited Dom so much that he'd wake up at 4:30 every morning in order to pack as much into his day as possible
- the boy loved the biggest sandpit that he'd ever seen but was more than a little disconcerted by the big wobbly frothy swimming pool he found at the end. Inspired by Evie, and equipped with an as yet undeveloped waterproof camera, we took him for a paddle which he hated.
- chilling in his sun-tent on the beach watching the ladies go by, he liked
- a succession of grey-haired well-meaning types insisted that just 'a little bit' of a Cornish Cream Tea wouldn't hurt him (gluten, sugar, dairy, hello?)
- we took two trips to the swimming pool where I found the two or three seconds that Dominic will happily swim underwater for seemed to take forever, but he loved that too
In my first week back at college my class notes read teething, symptoms of: irritable, fretful, clinging, difficulty sleeping, cry more, extra saliva, lots of chewing, sometimes warm/red cheeks
and a light may as well come on over my head. I immediately began to regret all the pre-dawn threats to float him out to sea on his changing mat and realised his rosy glow may not after all be down to harbourside pensioners slipping him a tot of scrumpy
