About

wassock "whaz-ohk" (noun, substantive) : within our family, a term used for someone who is too likeable for any stronger insult, but nevertheless deserves to be (affectionately) insulted.

So this is, unashamedly, a baby blog. It started (with a celebrity guest appearance) back in 2003, when Helen was expecting our first child, as a way of keeping our far-flung friends and family abreast of all things baby related. It was also messing about with computers and t'internet (and not for the first time) which I enjoyed for it's own sake. We pretty much know everyone that reads it and there's little here for anyone that doesn't know us, though you are more than welcome.

The unexpected benefit of the site has been that I've kept a diary of Dom and Tillys' early years in a way I would never have kept up with in a pen and paper format. (plus it's very hard to glue VHS tapes into a leatherbound diary). The most important reader of the blog has turned out to be me. Perhaps one day the kids'll like reading it too. Or perhaps they'll hate me for putting all this stuff on the internet. One or the other, certainly.

In the beginning

If this were Star Trek, this is the original series and Grandad (with the unfeasibly long arms) is our James T. Kirk : uber-wassock and cheaterheader extraordinaire.

1950s

The 1970s and wassockry reaches its zenith in the person of Dad (that hair! those trousers!)

1977

Then, as the only son of an only son, it fell to the next generation, Jim (me!) to scale new heights of good-natured idiocy. To this end, he met and married 'byoootiful Helen'. As toddlers they were scarily alike and, it has to be conceded, no stranger to the pie.

Jim and Helen

A fourth generation of wassocks was to come - Dom arrived on the 24th February 2003 and Tilly was born on the 6th of November 2006. This place is pretty much all about them.
